4 Reasons to Choose Panel Binds to Cover Glass Sliding Doors

Posted on: 15 January 2019

If you have a room with large sliding glass doors across one wall, you'll love being able to fill that room with natural light and having easy access to your outside area. However, you'll probably want to install some sort of cover to ensure you have more privacy when you need it and can keep out the glare and heat when the sun is low on the horizon.

For most people, that means fitting roller blinds. They do a great job, but you might want to consider sliding panel blinds instead. Here are just four reasons why.

1. Perfect Entranceway

One of the nice things about sliding windows is being able to open one a little to provide a draft or let people through. With roller blinds, this is tricky. You can still pull down the blinds when a door is open, but people will have to duck under to get past and the blinds will blow around if there's any wind. Panel blinds don't present the same problem because they move in the same direction as the glass itself. You can simply pull the panel blinds to cover everything apart from the entrance.

2. Quicker and Easier

Glass sliding doors tend to cover quite a large area, which usually means having to fit more than one set of roller blinds. When you want to open or close them, you'll have to pull the cord for each in turn, which can be a bit of a bother. It's much faster and easier to simply pull across a set of panel blinds.

3. Complete Coverage

Of course, there is another issue that comes with fitting more than one roller blind across the same expanse of glass — they won't provide complete coverage when closed. Two sets of roller blinds are going to need a small gap between them, so you'll have small areas where light can creep through and people can look in. When you pull your panel blinds, you'll completely cover your glass sliding doors.

4. More Dramatic Appearance

Finally, panel blinds simply offer a more dramatic appearance. Roller blinds often feel a little boring. They also hang right beneath the ceiling when not in use and trail down cords to the side. Panel blinds provide an opportunity to extend styling since they are much larger. At the same time, they leave nothing distracting above your glass sliding doors when they are pulled.
