Tips for remodelling your bathroom right before the holidays

Posted on: 20 April 2020

December is always a time when holiday spirits are running high. If you're planning to renovate your bathroom during this holiday season, you can infuse some unique elements that radiate the holiday spirit. Many people don't realise just how much time they spend in their bathrooms. By adding a holiday-themed design, you can always maintain a fun and upbeat mood inside your bathroom even after the holidays are over. Here are 5 tips that can help you get this theme just right.

1.    Make it minimalistic

A holiday theme shouldn't be confused with clutter. While you may stuff the area under your Christmas tree with gifts, your bathroom remodel should follow a minimalistic approach. Minimal doesn't mean boring. Rather, it means elegance achieved via clean and simple designs. It means having a spacious floor plan that draws attention to a focal point and allows fresh air to flow freely at any given time. But how can you achieve this design while adding a holiday theme to the bathroom?

Start with blending dark and light tones inside the bathroom space. Dark floors and walls are the perfect backdrops for light cabinet doors or plumbing fixtures. You can also add designs such as snowflakes, leaves and stars to your tile floors. This, coupled with the open-plan design, will draw more attention to your floors and radiate a holiday theme even in the middle of the year.

2.    Remove bezels and barriers

The holiday season is synonymous with freedom. You can radiate a similar theme in your home by removing bezels around shower screens and barriers around your windows. A continuous, free-flowing effect can make your bathroom look elegant and comfortable. Frameless shower screens are also easier to maintain, and they come in numerous shapes that you can choose to fit your preferences.

3.    Add colour

A holiday-themed bathroom would be incomplete without using the right colours. While you can't go wrong with neutrals such as white and grey, other bold options can help you radiate a stronger theme. Don't shy away from green, red and orange in various parts of your bathroom.

Green is a good choice for parts of your floor, cabinet doors and walls, while red can add flavour to plumbing fixtures (sink handles, cabinet door handles, etc.). Orange works well for wallpaper, window coverings or the entryway to your bathroom.

4.    Smart and natural lighting

To complete your holiday-themed bathroom, don't forget to add the right lighting. Natural light gives the best effect as it's minimally disruptive and uplifting. You can also add smart functionality to your lights so that you can control them in many different ways. Place your natural light bulbs on the ceiling, floors and walls to create a balanced effect.
